Founded November
1991, Abraxas Unbound has ceased publishing. Originally called
Abraxas, the first nineteen issues went out under that name, but issue
twenty was renamed Abraxas Unbound to distinguish its large-size book
format; so was issue twenty-one that followed, the last or Omega
edition.
For
those interested in obtaining back copies, it was a literary magazine
that incorporated
The Colin Wilson Newsletter, bringing
together poetry and fiction, philosophy and metaphysics. On the
philosophy side, it published essays by Colin Wilson on Jacques
Derrida, Alfred North Whitehead, Edmund Husserl and the Austrian
novelist Robert Musil.
On the literary front it
featured
translations of stories from Pablo
Palacio, Jose de
Cuadre and poems
from D.M. Thomas and Zofia Ilinska. Articles have varied, from
a
penetrating study of criminal messiahs to the virtues of Herod and the angel craze
sweeping America. Furthermore there are book reviews,
readers'
comments and artwork.
In the
final phase, the
format of Abraxas changed from an A4 magazine to a Crown Quarto book of around 200 pages, renamed ABRAXAS
UNBOUND. There were two issues in this
format that were printed, and the magazine was officially closed in
January 2009. The early issues of Abraxas are listed on the Back
Numbers page.
